User-Friendly Engine Idle Limiter
Purpose
The Model 277 Engine Idle Limiter is designed to help save fuel and protect the environment by limiting the time that an engine is permitted to remain idling when the vehicle is parked. The installation of this unit will help to assure compliance with recent enacted laws regulating the allowable idle times of certain classes of vehicles.

- It gets even better! If you install an idle limiter you get a tax break as well. In the Energy Improvement and Extension Act (EIEA) of 2008, Section 206 excludes certain idling reduction devices from the federal excise tax. This law amends section 4053 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Optional Equipment
Idle Limiter Service Tool
Fourteen LED indicators enable quick verification of vehicle wiring on new Idle Limiter installations and speed troubleshooting of existing installations. The Service Tool will indicate when the ignition is on, the voltage input is energized, power is applied to engine "run" and accessory circuits, and when the ECM STOP signal is energized. Also featured on the unit is the abillity to directly control the engine "run" and accessory circuits. Order part number 57-A277-08 ($89)
Mild Weather Option Kit
With this optional kit installed the Engine Idle Limiter will ONLY work when outside air temperature is between 'the comfort range' of +40°F (+5° C) and +80°F (+28° C). Other temperatures are available on special order. When the outside temperature is above or below this ‘comfort range’, the engine will idle as long as the operator desires while the vehicle is unattended to keep heaters & air conditioners operating in the cab. 57-A277-02 ($20)
CAT SEPD0967 Kit
For compliance with Caterpillar SEPD0967 which requires an indicator light and an exemption for operator-on-board situations we offer a low cost accessory kit that includes a red indicator light for time-out warning, and an operator-on-board inhibit switch along with installation instructions. 3 Minute Shutdown Version
Available in either 12 or 24 volts, this version of the Engine Idle Limiter will shut engines down after 3 minutes of idling time. This complies with Delaware, Connecticut, and DC Idling limits. Order Model 277-3.
Fleet Idle Limiter
ATTENTION FLEET OWNERS: The Model 276 costs $98 each in lots of 10 and up only. This special fleet version is the same as the Model 277 in appearance, operation, and connection but does not have the accessory control and comes with a basic 4-wire harness. Also available in a 3 minute version as Model 276-3 at the same price. Please specify Model 276 and voltage when ordering.
How it Works
A countdown sequence is initiated when the parking brake (or other switch that is ground when engaged) is set OR command signal is received from "Park" position (switch closure to +). If the signal is removed before the time period expires the unit is reset and the engine is not shut down. The unit is connected to the Run, Fuel Pump, or Coil circuit on the engine or the ECM Stop input.
Emissions Laws
Emissions laws are becoming more strict concerning engine idling. California, New Jersey, Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New York have passed legislation limiting the idle times of on-highway and off-highway commercial & industrial vehicles to no more than 5 minutes.
